As we demand more from our networks, the role of conferences such as QUESTnet98 are an increasingly critical information source for network-based information professionals. The purpose of the conference is to equip network technologists with the knowledge that will guide them throughout the year. Registration costs around $420 (by June 1 1998). For a three day quality program, this conference represents value for money. Providing a forum for network managers, designers and supporters since the early 1980's, the QUESTnet conference series has pre-empted network issues that most of us expect to face some time in the future. This year's theme "networking for flexible delivery" will introduce the latest technologies and their impact upon networks and communications infrastructure. Who Should Attend QUESTnet98? This year's conference theme "Networking for flexible delivery" is of particular interest to educators and support staff and those charged with providing the enabling infrastructure for flexible delivery. The QUESTnet management committee believe this conference to be the national conference for networking professionals. Past conferences have attracted delegates such as: Industrial and commercial executives, interested in establishing closer links to the research capabilities and networking facilities provided by the QUESTnet partnership. End users of the network such as academics, researchers, distance educators and tertiary administrators. Network staff and information technology service providers from academia, government and industry. Librarians, trainers, consultants who facilitate access to information provided on the QUESTnet communications infrastructure. Telecommunications carriers and service providers. Telecommunications and computer equipment providers. Program details QUESTnet98 is being hosted by Central Queensland University at the Capricorn International Resort. The program will have multiple streams focusing on detailed technical issues associated with network topologies, network-based systems from the perspective of applications and information delivery services, and issues associated with policy, regulation and support. As well as international keynotes, QUESTnet98 will present approximately 30 speakers over a 3 day period. Who or What is QUESTnet? QUESTnet is made up from the Queensland Education Science and Technology Network Management Committee and has representatives from: Australian Catholic University Australian Institute of Marine Science Bond University C.S.I.R.O Central Queensland University Griffith University James Cook University Queensland University of Technology Southern Cross University The University of Queensland University of Southern Queensland

The Queensland Education Science and Technology Network (QUESTnet) Management Committee has held annual winter workshops for network technologists and network-based information professionals since the early 1980's. Each year one of the universities in Queensland hosts the winter workshops. In 1998, QUESTnet returns to Central Queensland University and will, once again, provide a national forum for network technologists and practitioners, support professionals, and network users.

The QUESTnet98 Winter Workshop will have multiple streams focusing on detailed technical issues associated with network topologies, network-based systems from the perspective of applications and information delivery services, and issues associated with policy, regulation, and support. This year there will be a special emphasis placed on the use of 'the network' for flexible delivery of a variety of services. In keeping with the non-metropolitan venue for this year' event, the conference will also consider the many issues associated with equity of service for all.
